Phenomenal Plants

My love of a plant species springs from my observed and ephemeral experience of the plant in a particular place.  This love then transforms into a desire to seek out and experience the plant in other landscapes.

The observable phenomena of a plant in place – swaying in the wind, basking in sunlight, glistening with dew and mingling with other plants, fungi, and animals – defines the plant as much as any cataloging of its specific parts (leaf shape, flower form, fruit body, etc).

I know a plant by these parts, but I love a plant because of how I feel when I am with it in a specific place – its fragrance from the sunshine and its indication of a moment in the passing season (its phenology).

These photographs serve as memories of these plants, places and feelings.
